Brynamman 6 Aberavon Quins 23

The Quins pack laid the foundation for the top of the table clash between league leaders Aberavon Quins and second placed Brynamman. The front row trio of Mike Burgess, Dan Morgan and Tom James were in dominant mood and held the upper hand in the scrums but also contributed much n the loose. Despite a following wind  the Quins were slow to adapt to the conditions in the opening quarter.

Marc Sheppard opened the Quins account with a straight penalty goal but Brynamman swept to the attack from the restart and the Quins defence was stretched but held firm. Scrum half Jacob Flynn took a tapped penalty in his own half and ripped the defence apart in a blistering run but was hauled down just short of the line. The Quins held the position through strong forward play and Flynn slipped a pass to Sheppard who touched down for a try that he also converted. The Quins again messed up the restart and Bryn got on the scoreboard with a Steff Duggan penalty goal. Sheppard added a penalty for the Quins but many observers considered the lead not enough to ensure victory playing into the strong wind.

The Quins eight gained complete command in the second half, led by skipper Craig Cox ably supported by back row team mates, Conor O'Callaghan and Adam Dawe. Flynn and Sheppard kicked intelligently and there was good ball carrying from Dale Bowen and Callum Beynon. The backs defended well and harried their opposite numbers when they gained meagre possession. Duggan added his second penalty goal soon cancelled out in kind by Sheppard.

The final word belong to the Quins threequarters when centres James Peploe-Williams and Jack Dacey pressurised the Brynamman mid-field and winger Gareth Pugh kicked through for Peploe-Williams to score a try converted by Sheppard.
