Aberavon Quins II 36 Cwmavon II 16

Two youthful teams took the field in windy conditions which were made worse with driving rain. The Quins swarmed to the attack early on but Cwmavon defended well and took an early lead with a long distance penalty from a wide angle by Lewis Cronin.

The Quins hit back from the re-start through a great run by No8 Dylan Maclachlan and support from the pack allowed skipper Karl Davies dive over for a try. Cwmavon fly-half, Cronin gave a master class in kicking and restored the Cwmavon lead with another magnificent penalty.

The Quins scrum was dominant and props Josh Pugh and James Mallen gave hooker Tyler Hopkins the support to take many strikes against the put in. Davies again drove forward and Maclachlan dived over and Gareth Pugh converted.

A strong run from winger Jake Price set up a scrum five and the Quins eight drove forward for scrum half Jamie Gibbs to dive over. Pugh converted. Cronin banged over another wide angle goal to make it 19-9 at the break.

Early second half pressure from Cwmavon threatened the Quins line but the home defence stood firm until a horrendous mix- up in running out of defence allowed Cronin to pick up a loose ball and score a try which he converted.

The Quins pack continued to dominate with Jon Thomas, Nathan Robbins to the fore and open side Aris Koulizakis showed up well in attack and defence. Matthew Morgan moved to his more accustomed position at scrum half and immediately threatened the Cwm defence. Quade Boal made a strong break and set up the forwards and Machlachlan grabbed his  second try. Pugh converted.

The Quins were threatening to run away with things as Morgan tested the visitors defence and Martin Andrews showed his pace in a 30m sprint to the line.

To everyone's surprise the referee then called  time with 15 minutes remaining. There had been a few scuffles and a couple of yellow cards but hardly to the extent of abandonment.
