Aberavon Quins Development XV 26 Tondu 0

In atrocious conditions the Quins were for the most part in control of this cup tie. Late withdrawals forced Jack Dacey to fill in at scrum half and he stood up well in defence, kicked soundly and scored a spectacular solo try in the opening minutes.

The powerful boot of fly half Kristin Roberts caused problems as the Tondu defenders had to deal with the swirling wind.

The Quins eight were dominant throughout with flankers Liam Oates and Glen Williams flooring would-be attackers.

No 8 Sam Richards put in some strong runs throughout the game and combined well with Dacey to set up many attacks.

Quins stretched their lead when a deft cross field grubber by Roberts was gathered cleanly by Dean Scully who dragged a few defenders over beneath the cross-bar. Roberts converted.

The home pack continued to dominate with hooker Marcus Francis throwing in well in the difficult conditions and Oates, James Edmunds and Jon Thomas prospered in the line out.

Props Josh Pugh and Tom Morley had the upper hand in the scrums ensuring good ball for the pressure to be maintained on the visitors defence which stood up well for long periods.

A huge penalty from Roberts aimed at touch just pitched infield and winger Ben Evans showed remarkable speed and handling ability to gather under the noses of the Tondu defenders and finished between the posts after a thirty meter touchline sprint.

Roberts converted to make it 19-0 at half time.

Conditions worsened as both teams were applauded for producing some stirring rugby.

Winger Jake Price ran hard and also Jamie Lean from full back showed he still had a burst of speed. Former first team regular Neil Pugsley had no opportunity to show his skills in attack but was comfortable in defence.

Persistent offending at a rolling maul forced ref Jeff Woods to award the Quins a penalty try which Roberts converted.

With the rain lashing down both captains decided to call it a day and Mr Woods called time a few minutes before full time to a game to which his refereeing contributed greatly
