Morriston 22-36 Aberavon Quins

Morriston 22 Aberavon Quins 36
In perfect conditions supporters were treated to a very entertaining match. The opening minutes saw Morriston swarm to the attack but poor handling under pressure gave the Quins respite. No.8 O’Callaghan put the visitors on the front foot with two bursts from Quins territory and fly half Cooksley goaled a penalty. O’Callaghan was in commanding mood and set up another attack and centre Cronin put Dale Bowen over for a spectacular score. Cooksley converted from a wide angle, The Quins back row dominated and Cox handled the close quarter work expertly, and Jonny Thomas caught the eye with strong running. Morriston pressed for a while and were rewarded with a Corey Evans penalty goal. Injury to O’Callaghan brought Niall Price into the fray and he soon used his bulk to batter the home defenders. Thomas produced a turn over and ran strongly and Cronin finished in style with Cooksley converting. 17-3 things were looking serious for the young Morriston team but a remarkable break shredded the Quins defence but the ball was dropped over the line in an attempt to show boat a try.
Early in the second half strong running full back Kyle Broom added another long distance try for the Quins converted by Cooksley. With their eyes firmly set on a bonus point victory the Quins were brought to earth as some magnificent running by the youthful home backs stunned them. Great running from half backs Seaward and Evans with support from full back Gareth Thomas paved the way for tries from hooker Jack Rodin and  Gareth Thomas, converted by Evans. The Quins lost a little of their composure and poor kicking allowed the eager home backs to counter strongly. The fitter  Quins eight held sway however, with another starring role for the front row trio  of Helson, Hopkins and Josh Pugh. Lock, Callum Beynon celebrated his one hundredth first team appearance with an impressive all round display.  Cox and smart scrum half Kennerley took play close in and Cronin added his second try for a bonus point. Replacement Ryan Pugh  converted before the home side hit back with a devastating sixty metre move for Steff Thomas to romp over for try that was not converted. Jon Thomas completed a superb personal performance with a late try to secure his team’s second bonus point win.
