Aberavon Quins visited Division one west club, Gowerton and came away with a hard earned 10-5 win.
Both sides were lacking a number of last season's regulars and looked in need of the game with both defences continually nullifying would be attacks.
The Quins pack held the upper hand for most of the game apart from the lineout where the home side held a slight advantage.
There were eye catching performances from flankers, Liam Oates and Adam Dawe and very tight defending from centres Quade Boal & Jack Dacey. Full back Ryan Pugh put in some typical strong runs from deep and both Boal and Sheppard ran strongly but the home defence stood firm
Nil - Nil at half time, the home side produced a great second half try but the Quins defenders forced the scorer wide out making the conversion too difficult in windy conditions.
The Quins responded through several mighty scrum drives with props Dan Morgan and Tom Morley too strong for their opposite numbers who had no respite when Dan Helson and Josh Pugh replaced them. Good control by No.8 Conor O'Callaghan with support from Dale Bowen and Callum Beynon set Oates on a strong run beating off would be tacklers to score. Marc Sheppard converted and added a penalty in the closing stages to register a win.
