Cwmavon 3 Aberavon Quins 22

The Quins confirmed their place at the top of  West Central 2 with a bonus point win at the Welfare Ground. The hard scrummaging Quins front row trio of Tom James, Luke Davies and Dan Morgan laid the foundation for victory as they provided a very uncomfortable afternoon for their opposite numbers.  The Quins line out also went well with locks Dale Bowen and Callum Beynon monopolising.

Early forward pressure gave good quality ball and scrum half Marcus David combined with No 8 Conor O'Callaghan  to stretch the home defence. Ryan Pugh broke from full back and wingers Alex Condon and Gareth Pugh gained a lineout close to the line. The Cwmavon forwards did well to hold the Quins pack but fly half Marc Sheppard crashed over for an unconverted try.

The scrum continued to be a problem for Cwmavon but No8 Luke Gronert worked hard to minimise the damage at the back of a retreating scrum .

Home full back Scott Davies always looked a dangerous runner but the well organised Quins defence was solid.

Good home pressure gained a penalty success for Aaron Lewis and a yellow card for a technical offence reduced the Quins pack to seven men but they showed their riches in the prop department when Tom Morley entered the fray with relish. The Quins pack power caused the Cwmavon effort to wane in the second half and good handling by forwards Dale Bowen, Beynon and Craig Cox resulted in a maul providing a dual celebration for tight head prop, Dan Morgan with his first ever try for the club in his one hundredth game.

The Quins stretched their lead when Condon, Jack Dacey and O'Callaghan combined at pace to put Gareth Pugh over at the corner flag. More trouble came for Cwmavon as the Quins introduced fresh legs in the last quarter. Morley returned to the field along side Dean Scully soon got into gear and combined with Glen Williams and Marcus David to allow Jordan Crealock to run around beneath the posts for a try converted by Sheppard.
