SWALEC Cup Aberavon Quins 6 Llangennech 7

The Quins were edged out of  the Swalec plate by the narrowest of margins after a tense struggle against Division 1 Llangennech.

The Quins tore into the visitors from the kick off and young props Tom James and Tom Morley were prominent as the Quins scrum dominated the first quarter. Wave after wave of attacks threatened the Llangennech line but their superb defence stood firm. Marc Sheppard eased the Quins in front with a penalty and busy scrum half Marcus David crossed the line but was held up. Sheppard stretched the Quins lead with his second penalty goal. The visitors' line out worked well and comfortably won their own throw and disrupted the Quins possession. A rare visit to Quins territory saw Llan getting a succession of penalties resulting in a 5 metre line out and a well controlled maul gave no8 Jamie Hughes a try converted by Ceiron Thomas.

Both defences were well drilled and as the game progressed Llangennech gained dominance but were unable to increase their lead.

The Quins forward effort waned in the second half but still tackled all that came before them with stand out performances from Liam Oates, Glen Williams and Dan Morgan. The best Quins attacks were engineered through no8 Sam Richards and scrum half Marcus David who always posed a threat.

The Quins were on the back foot for most of the second half and did well to hold out despite a yellow card reducing them to fourteen men. In the closing seconds the Quins dredged up some energy and swept up field and hammered at the visitors' line but stern defending held them at bay ending a thrilling game with a close but fair result.
